The NBA League office offers summer internships to students between their junior and senior years and graduate students. The internships are all in New York or Secaucus, New Jersey. Internships last ten weeks and interns participate in events and activities that allow them to learn how the NBA business really works. The NBA is the professional basketball league in North America. The NBA is a huge corporation made up of 30 men`s franchise teams, 12 W-NBA teams and 16 NBA Development League teams. Teams and league are a multi-billion dollar industry. The league and each individual team offer internships to students who are academically strong and passionate about basketball. NBA-CLS`s mission is to connect external advisor members with internal advisors who want to increase diversity and provide networking and education forums for NBA-CLS members.

The NBA-CLS is also committed to serving the community and expanding the pipeline of African Americans entering the legal profession. For more information, see www.nbacls.com. According to the National Association for Law Placement`s (NALP) 2021 Diversity Report, racial minorities remain underrepresented at the helm of legal advisory organizations. People of color made up about 28 percent of employees, but less than 9 percent of funding partners. Black lawyers surpassed 2.2% of partners for the first time since NALP began collecting data, but the representation of Black lawyers in law firms still lags behind that of Asian and Latino lawyers, and these gaps have widened over time. In addition, women accounted for only 25.92 percent of all partners in 2021, and black and Latino women continued to make up less than 1 percent of all partners in U.S. law firms. The BLM program is designed to support the legal diversity pipeline in keeping with the section`s stated mission to increase the diversity of outside counsel and expand the pipeline of Black people entering the legal profession. The program provides education, exposure, and opportunities to diverse students who face the challenge of securing quality employment by working with legal departments and law firms that advocate for more meaningful steps to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. April 22, 2022 – The Commercial Law Section of the National Bar Association (NBA-CLS) announces the third edition of its Black Lawyers Matter (BLM) articling program, designed to positively impact diversity in the legal profession.

The program provides guidance and creates new opportunities for black law students who face the challenge of securing quality employment. Professional sports internships are very competitive and interns work hard while learning the craft of basketball. Internships at the NBA office and in individual teams may or may be remunerated. In addition, NBA-CLS and NBCUniversal will jointly offer a $10,000 scholarship to each NBCUniversal intern. NBCUniversal invites 1L and 2L students with a proven interest or previous experience in entertainment, news and/or media to apply for the 10-week summer internship. NBCUniversal meets with all final candidates and arranges internships directly with selected students. Matching by other organizations is limited and employment opportunities and all scholarships or fellowships are managed by the participating organizations. The BLM articling program aims to change these statistics by creating opportunities for underrepresented lawyers and aspiring lawyers.

During the articling period, articling students gain hands-on experience in an in-house consulting or law firm environment, legal training, mentorship, and enhanced employment opportunities. Each of the NBA, WNBA, and development teams also offers a variety of camps for basketball fans. Camps are available in cities where professional basketball teams play ball. Many departments hire interns at different times of the year. You can find a position in departments such as graphic design, human resources, public relations, community relations, basketball operations, ticket sales, marketing, promotions, game operations, social media, photography or many others with your favorite team.
